Really enjoyed this bar! Made good fancy drinks, had cheap beer, and super friendly staff - thanks Mikey. Low key vibe, good music in the background, and just the right amount of dicey. Neighborhood is what it is, so keep your head up.

The best burgers, fries, and service in Seattle, hands down! Thursday night karaoke is the place to be. Usually Seattle service is piss poor but I've found the opposite to be true here. Servers in SLU seem to watch their shoes while walking past tables, it's different here. Folks make sure their guests are taken care of.

There are a number of reasons to recommend Saint John's as an establishment. One might consider the casually calm, secluded patio at the back of the bar a great merit, or perhaps one could (rightfully!) rave about the quality of the food or the consistently solid cocktails and rotating draft beer selection. A wise patron may also mention the lovely ambiance and great sound at Cami's karaoke night on Thursdays, or the enthusiastic crowd drawn by trivia every Wednesday. It really is worth an extra aside to underscore the quality of the food. Saint John's does a fantastic job of balancing a variety of options (including an appreciable number of gluten-free and vegan items) with relentless delicious quality. A memory lingers in my mind: I look across the table at my friend who ordered the Cajun wings with garlic aioli that we shared. "Aioli is just fancy mayonnaise, right?" I nod. "I don't even like mayo--" I chime in with my agreement. "But this is GOOD." Again I agree. For a modest price considering the cost of living around here, you, too, can have Cajun-spiced food (either chicken wings or fries) served with garlic aioli for dipping. I recommend it. The fact remains that although all these factors serve to recommend Saint John's on Pike not far above Summit Avenue on Capitol Hill, none of them strike the picky barhopper as unique. For these nitpickers I slip an ace out of my sleeve: Saint John's maintains a persistent dedication to its dinosaur motif. I have not yet divined the root reason behind this aesthetic. It doesn't matter. This is THE DINOSAUR BAR and there is no other place like it. The chill and professional staff as well as the amiable regulars know it is THE DINOSAUR BAR and, as a result, remain down to earth and approachable. There are dinosaur figures at every table to be posed as if you were nine years old and inventing Jurassic soap operas with your little brother in the basement play area in 1997 again. Even if you turn your nose up at all that, there is no excuse for not marveling at the enormous asteroid-and-dinosaurs mural on the western wall. The dinosaurs even have feathers, as is up to date with modern research.

I've been to Saint John's twice in the last month and love it very much. Wasn't on my radar (I don't spend all that much time on the Hill) until two friends recommended it. Love the vibe which is fun and a little gritty with dinosaurs galore. Love our server (same both visits) who was so genuinely lovely. Love the music and that it's not too loud to have a conversation with your table-mates. Table service if you're dining in or you can order at the bar. Cocktails are good and also pretty. I've had the Maneater (anejo tequila, Montenegro, brown sugar cardamom syrup, lemon) and Cherry Glazerr (vodka, dark cherry syrup, house sour, vegan foam) and would order both again. Excellent happy hour M-F from 4-6 with drink specials and snack specials. Dinner foods are also great, and lots of veg options. I especially recommend the tofu banh mi and the brussels sprouts. Cannot wait to spend lots more time here!

We were on the hunt for a quick brunch on Saturday, and we came across St. John's - zero wait time, breakfasty foods on the menu, and booth seating were more than enough to convince us to come in. The breakfast/brunch options are basic but substantial. Everyone but one person in our group got the bagel breakfast sandwich. They source the bagels from Macrina Bakery, and they were perfectly crispy and soft. At $10 a sandwich, we were quite happy. The service was quick, and the waiter was super friendly. I think this spot is often overlooked but a great option for weekend brunch, especially when you've forgotten to make reservations elsewhere.

Spend enough time in St. John's and it begins to become a part of who you are. Even after moving out of the neighborhood, I've remained a loyal patron of this joint since the Harvard Ave. QFC used to have two entrances :-) The unwritten "no assholes" policy sets the tone for an inclusive environment where everyone is not only welcome but encouraged to be themselves. This is a rarity, especially in Capitol Hill, which can sometimes be overrun with pretentiousness. This place feels like an extension of my living room, the food is straight Fi-Ya, and the back patio is a whole vibe! Get yourself into this joint and tell Michael that Doc sent you.

A great spot for a casual catch-up with friends -- the service was really fast and the ambiance is perfect. Our waiter was attentive and checked in on us without feeling overbearing. Highly recommend the artichoke dip to share -- it was served warm and gooey and was SO. GOOD. I can totally see myself stopping back in here!
